May 23, 2019 – McPherson Education Foundation, on behalf of the McPherson Magnet School, received a grant from the Stanley W. Ekstrom Foundation to upgrade four classrooms with the latest in Smart TV technology. The classrooms selected for this upgrade are the four Education Specialist rooms, ensuring that every student at the school has access to the latest in technology. The McPherson Education Foundation Board of Directors unanimously approved the Stanley W. Ekstrom Foundation grant and provided additional funds to provide for installation and additional technology in each room.
By the start of the 2019-2020 school year, over 80% of the classrooms at McPherson will be up to date with the latest technology, including Smart TVs and individual iPads for all K-3 students. Education Specialist for 2nd and 3rd grade, Kirsten Preziosi, is one of the recipients of the grant. She says “This is awesome. This will be so beneficial in our classrooms. My students are so excited”.
On March 27, 2019, McPherson Magnet celebrated receiving its designation as a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for Launch and Gateway. It’s grants like these from the Stanley W. Ekstrom Foundation and the McPherson Education Foundation that allows McPherson Magnet to earn these coveted achievements and continue to be the model in STEM education for all of Orange County.
OUSD opened McPherson Magnet School in 1997 with the encouragement of parents who saw the future of education was Math, Science and Technology. To ensure McPherson Magnet School stayed out in front of the pack, the parents started an all volunteer McPherson Education Foundation with the mission to keep McPherson Magnet current with the latest in education technology. The Foundation has been successful in donating over $1.1 Million dollars to the school in the last 20 years, entirely due to the continuous financial donations and involvement of its parents, teachers, administration, community and organizations that support the Foundation’s mission. The Foundation looks forward continuing this momentum to furnish McPherson Magnet with the latest technology and support over the next 20 years.
McPherson Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit with the specific mission to raise funds to support the magnet focus of McPherson. To succeed at pushing what is possible in the classroom, it takes a coordinated effort, both time and money, amongst parents, teachers and administrative staff.
